Graphic Novels

Before reading Persepolis, I had never been introduced to graphic novels. I didn't realize how informative and fun to read they could be. I thought they were just bigger comic books. Now that I have a little experience, I might look to read another one. I think that a class like College Literature should give us some background information on different writing styles so we can find out what interests us. I would have never read a graphic novel if I hadn't taken this class. The artwork and layout of pannels was outstanding. It was clear who was talking and in what order. The artwork also contributed greatly to the story. Overall, I liked the graphic novel writing style a lot.

  1. I had never read a graphic novel either. I was a little worried that it would be hard to understand who was talking or what was happening, but it was actually pretty easy. I didn't really expect to read so many different styles in this class, so that was nice.

  2. I hadn't ever read a graphic novel before this class either, and I was very skeptical about it as well. I had thought that it would be boring, but I actually ended up liking Persepolis. The graphics in the book helped tell the story a lot. They gave us the main character's persepective, but through her eyes, not only just the text.

  3. It really is an interesting experience reading a graphic novel for the first time, isn't it? I guess I hadn't really technically had any experience with it either, but I have read manga before, which is essentially the same thing, only backwards. It made it a quick read as well, which was definitely a welcome change from Jane Eyre. Also, if you haven't finished reading the book, I highly recommend finding it somewhere and reading the rest of it. It honestly gets even better.
